I was a kid who couldn’t wait to grow up. Grown-ups, it seemed, got to choose their destiny. I am undecided if this is true.
I turned 30 this month. That’s a bona fide grown-up age if you ask me. In the last 10 years of my life, I have aquired one college degree, one marriage, one divorce, one child, one home, a few cross country moves, one semester abroad, and one career switch under my belt. As my birthday approached, I didn’t want to, you know, bitch and moan about how “old” I was now. I felt like I did a lot in my 20s and, heck, I was just getting started. I wanted to celebrate 30.
So I made a list. I am fond of lists; I make one (at least) every day. So I made a to-do list, which I have cleverly dubbed The List, of things I hope to do to celebrate my 30th year of living. The List currently lives in my head; there is no goal in mind, like 30 things, or deadline to finish The List. The List is my celebration of my 30 years. I think about the older folks who wish to be 30, and the younger folks who by illness or accident never got to be 30. So I’m off to do some things with my 30. Some things I have checked off The List so far and some still await that satisfying scratch off The List. I will (try to) cover them on this blog.(Note: This blog! This domain name! Both on The List: CHECK! Aren’t you proud of me?) Also, I am open to suggestions to add to The List.
So stay tuned and be kind. Thank you for joining me in the celebration. xoxo

Mel, congratulations on starting this! As someone who recently launched a blog myself, I know it’s hard work but very exciting. Here’s to your 30th year – may it bring you everything you can dream, and make that list count!
Love it Mel! Looking forward to more installments on your list. 30 is just a faint memory to me but people, place, events shape who we are. Thanks for allowing us to peer inside the making of you.
Yay Mel! With the energy you have, I can see your lists getting broader every day, and you embracing everything on them. I am thrilled you’ve got your blog up and running, and look forward to sharing your journeys as you continue to check things off your lists. It all starts… now!
Welcome to the blogosphere! Happy list scratching!
Hey Mel, this sounds like a great idea. I am ticking down to my 30th as well, only a couple of weeks to go and it does make for a good time to look back.
I am pretty happy with what I’ve done so far and I really feel like I am picking up momentum to be able to do exactly what I want to be doing!
Also, I like the theme, I use the same on my own website.
Love the intro. I shall follow you!
Sweet. Nice debut bliggity bloggity bling.
I’m very impressed. When seeing all that you have done and what you are going to do, I am reminded of a quote “There is no try, only do” Good job Mel. Keep on doing.
Rock on Mel! Seems like you kicked off the big 3-0 pretty well with Mexico!
