In divorce, you find that suddenly you don’t have a coffee table or a knife set or a dresser or someone tall enough to get the dishes off the top shelves. That’s happens! And then you get replacement stuff. Mostly off Craigslist. Which is why I put it on The List. And so when pal Emily read The List earlier this summer and emailed me to say it was on her places to visit, [...] My tomatoes have finally arrived, all red and ripening on the vine. And summer is almost gone. This time of year is bittersweet for me, as my two favorite seasons collide, fighting with one another over the temperature, the clothing I should wear, the foods I should make. Donated to a garage sale fundraiser for a friend’s toddler son who was [...] The other night The Kid wrapped a scarf around her midsection cinching it in tightly because, she told me, it made her look ”skinny.” I asked her why she did that as I untied her and she said because right there looked “fat.” These are not words we use in our house. Sure, pop culture is [...] Mr. Laura recently went mushrooming in the nearby foothills. Apparently he’s been into foraging for fungi for years, according to his beautiful + understanding wife, Neighbor Laura. He snagged like four paper grocery bags full of wild mushrooms. I forget their names; I liked their shape and texture.
